D102 is where WGU accounting majors learn to record transactions and build financial statements under GAAP. It is assessed by a proctored objective exam, and this shelf charts what that exam covers.

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your course of study and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. D102 is WGU’s Financial Accounting course. It centers on how the accounting cycle turns business transactions into journal entries, adjusted balances and the four basic financial statements. What D102 is really about

Financial Accounting focuses on how accounting principles work in business operations. Students learn the accounting cycle, from analyzing transactions and recording journal entries through posting, trial balances, adjusting entries and closing, and they prepare the income statement, statement of retained earnings, balance sheet and statement of cash flows. The course also covers assets, liabilities and equity, merchandising operations, inventory methods, receivables, bank reconciliations, internal control and business ethics.

The exam rewards fluency with debits and credits. Items ask which accounts a transaction affects, what an adjusting entry should be for accrued wages or prepaid insurance, or how a bank reconciliation treats an outstanding check versus a bank service charge. Inventory questions compare FIFO, LIFO and weighted average costs of goods sold when prices are rising. Students who can explain why each adjustment is needed, rather than memorizing entries, handle the unfamiliar wording of exam questions better. Building a small set of books for an imaginary business across one month is an effective way to practice the whole cycle at once.

What D102’s tasks ask for

The current D102 assessment is an objective exam on transaction analysis, the accounting cycle, adjusting and closing entries, financial statement preparation, inventory and receivables, bank reconciliations and internal control. No paper is required in this version.

Why D102 tasks come back for revision

Students most often lose points on adjusting entries, especially accruals versus deferrals, and on the bank reconciliation, where items belong on the bank side or the book side. Reversing debit and credit for contra accounts such as accumulated depreciation or allowance for doubtful accounts is another frequent slip. Writing the effect of each transaction on the accounting equation before recording it catches most errors, and checking that the balance sheet balances after every practice set confirms the whole chain.
